Eyecare Product Recalled

It probably won’t be back on the market in the next 12 months.

Bausch + Lomb announced a voluntary recall of PeroxiClear 3% Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaning & Disinfecting solution in the U.S. and Canada.

Bausch + Lomb announced that it is voluntarily recalling PeroxiClear 3% Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaning & Disinfecting solution in the U.S. and Canada.

PeroxiClear is a specialty contact lens solution with a special lens case and neutralizing disc. It is used for soft and rigid gas permeable contact lenses.

The company said that although the product “represents low risk to the consumer and is unlikely to cause serious health consequences,” it is conducting the recall “out of an abundance of caution and as part of our ongoing commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.”

Bausch + Lomb added: “It is unlikely that we will be able to return the product to the marketplace within 12 months.”

Internal testing showed occasional occurrences where the residual peroxide remaining in the lens case after neutralization was out of product specification, according to the company. If it is above product specification, the user could experience temporary symptoms of burning/stinging, irritation, red eye and, in rare circumstances, other more serious problems.

No other Bausch + Lomb products are affected by the recall.

Here are the affected UPC codes for the U.S.: 310119038154, 310119039106, 310119038161, 310119038178, 310119039083, 310119097120.

These codes are affected in Canada: 010119039211, 010119039228.

For more information, eyecare professionals and retailers should contact Stericycle Inc., the firm conducting this recall on behalf of Bausch + Lomb, at 1-877-877-0481.
