Johnson & Johnson Vision Names Chief Medical Officer

He’ll also serve as a worldwide VP.

(Press Release) NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Inc. announced Dr. Jonathan Talamo as its new chief medical officer and worldwide vice president of medical affairs and clinical affairs for Johnson & Johnson Vision, which includes both its vision care and surgical businesses, starting in early July.

Talamo is an internationally known ophthalmologist with more than 25 years of experience.

“Dr. Talamo is recognized in the eye health community as a leader who is on the cutting edge of innovation,” said Peter Shen, global head of R&D for Johnson & Johnson Vision. “I look forward to working with Dr. Talamo to help our teams in medical and clinical affairs better serve patients.”

Talamo joins Johnson & Johnson Vision from Ocular Therapeutix Inc., a public bio-pharma company where he served as CMO. Prior to Ocular Therapeutix Inc., he owned a private medical practice for almost 20 years, specializing in refractive surgery, cataract surgery and corneal transplantation.

Talamo has authored over 80 original peer-reviewed publications, review articles and book chapters and lectures worldwide on topics related to corneal disease, cataract and refractive surgery. He is a recipient of Honor and Senior Achievement awards from the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Talamo received his B.A. and M.D. degrees from Johns Hopkins University followed by an internship in medicine at Children’s Hospital/University of California at San Francisco, residency training at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute of The Johns Hopkins Hospital and fellowship training in Cornea and External diseases at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEEI)/Harvard Medical School. He went on to serve as the first director of refractive surgery service at MEEI and has been a member of the Harvard Medical School faculty since 1990.
