Karen Bachman, COMT, COE, OCS Named 2018 ASOA President

(PRESS RELEASE) FAIRFAX, VA – Karen Bachman, COMT, COE, OCS , has been named the 2018-2019 president of the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators (ASOA), a role to which she brings nearly 40 years of health care administration experience. Ms. Bachman is currently the practice administrator at Richens Eye Center in St. George, Utah. She enters her new role as ASOA president following outgoing president William T. Koch, COA, COE, CPC.

Ms. Bachman will deliver a president’s address on Saturday, April 14, 2018, during the ASOA Opening General Session at the ASCRS•ASOA Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.

“I am honored to be elected as president of ASOA,” said Ms. Bachman. “This organization is the supreme resource for new and experienced administrators and I look forward to serving to meet our membership needs in the upcoming year.”

Ms. Bachman started her career in ophthalmology in Scranton, Penn., in 1979, first as a front desk receptionist and proceeded to learn technical skills by obtaining her COA, COT and then her COMT status. She is currently also a COE and has worked as a clinic director, compliance officer, coder and practice administrator. Prior to her current position at the Richens Eye Center she worked for 27 years at Cincinnati Eye Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio, and five years at the Eye Institute of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. In addition, Ms. Bachman has been an active participant with the John A. Moran Eye Center’s international ophthalmology cataract surgery mission trips.
