Optometrist Charged with Insurance Fraud

He has a July court date.

Authorities have filed felony charges against an optometrist who worked in Montana for allegedly submitting false insurance claims, the Billings Gazette reports.

Gary Alfred White is alleged to have committed the crimes from 2012 to 2014. He practiced at Wal-Mart in Laurel, MT, until 2014, at which point he set up an office in the city of Plentywood.

Charges againt White include theft by insurance fraud, Medicaid fraud, and false claim to a public agency, according to the Gazette. He was investigated by state authorities as well as Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana.

Authorities believe that in numerous instances he billed for eye photography that wasn’t necessary. He’s also accused of diagnosing some patients with benign neoplasm when they did not, in fact, have the condition.

White is set to appear in court in July. He’s believed to reside in South Carolina now.
