Southern California Engineer Looks Part Cyborg with His Flashlight Prosthetic Eye

Brian Stanley lost an eye to cancer. Now he’s a cyborg. At least, he looks the part.

Stanley is an engineer and machinist. And, more than that, he’s a turn-lemons-into-lemonade type person.

Instead of going with a regular prosthetic eye, or even an eyepatch for that matter, Stanley saw an opportunity. He started crafting his own prosthetics out of biocompatible solid titanium billet. The twist? His prosthetics double as flashlights.

That’s right. Brian Stanley wears a flashlight in his eye socket.

The Southern California man posts pictures and videos of his “Titanium Skull Lamp” creations on his various social media accounts. His latest efforts have gone viral. His most recent video post has been viewed more than 9 million times on TikTok and garnered more than 230K likes on Instagram in only a few days.

On the video, Stanley demonstrates the capabilities of his Titanium Cyborg Eye.

It is fascinating. He turns the eye flashlight on, turns off the lights, and walks around his home in the dark with the aid of his creation.

“It does not get hot,” says Stanley in the video. “Also, my nose and browline [sic] completely shields my eye from the light.”

He started engineering his prosthetic eyes five years ago. He’s worn them full time for the past two years. The flashlight has a battery life of 20 hours between recharging.

He’s made a cyborg eye that looks straight out of The Terminator movies. He’s made a Pokemon eye. For Halloween this year, he made a Jack Skellington-inspired eye which featured two flashlights! (Last year’s Halloween prosthetic eyes featured ghosts and pumpkins.)

You can check out a few of Stanley’s videos below.
