Stop Making These Critical Errors on Your Website

Make your first impression count.

A new list published at Forbes outlines some of the key mistakes that small-business owners make with their websites.

In an article called “10 Small Business Website Errors That Drive Customers Away,” Forbes contributor Brad Shorr explains that your website is in many cases the first experience that a potential customer will have with your business. So it’s important to make it count.

One key problem for many businesses is that they go overboard in singing their own praises, Shorr writes. Instead of trying to communicate that you’re the best in every area, from price to innovation to quality, narrow down your message. He writes that you should “try to be known for one thing, and hammer that point home.”

Another issue with many sites is that fail to make it easy to get in touch. As Shorr explains, “Small business websites frequently lack easy-to-use contact forms, and many don’t even display a phone number.” Why not make it easy for people to do business with you?

Another common website buzzkill: lack of “credibility elements.” Potential buyers need to be assured they can trust you. Accreditations and customer testimonials can go a long way in letting them know you’re credible and reliable.
