We Asked Which Eyewear Trend or Style You Personally Despised and Boy, Did You Come Through!

question

We all love eyewear, but … is there a trend or style of frame that you personally despise?

  • In general, I love the idea of an oversized frame. However, people need to understand that not everyone can wear them. — Amy Donoho, 20/20 Optical, Fergus Falls, MN
  • The 1990s Y2K small, wrapped sunglass look. — Heather Harrington, Optical Nomad, Denver, CO
  • Drill mounts! — Ann-Marie Weaver, Optimal Eye Care, Lewis Center, OH
  • The name/logo in big bold letters on the temple. — Scott Keating, OD, Vision Trends by Dr. Scott Keating, Dover, OH
  • Only one I’d like to see stopped would be the cheap, non-adjustable frames that patients typically purchase online. — Pam Peters, Midwest Eye, Downers Grove, IL
  • I hate sporty frames. They’re ugly and nobody looks “good” in them! I understand they’re practical for certain people but let’s definitely have a dress pair too. — Morgan DiMaggio, Taylor Eye Care, Carmi, IL
  • Shield sunglasses are so trendy. I think 10 years from now we will all laugh and say “Wow! I can’t believe I wore that.” Like leg warmers, bell bottoms, and crocs. — Dierdre Fogle, OD, Eyetopia Eyecare, Littleton, CO
  • Aviators. — Melissa Taylor, Tablerock Family Vision Care, Branson West, MO
  • Malcolm X top heavy frames on women. Just no. — Cindy Henderson, Eyear Optical, Chattanooga, TN
  • Large bulky frames. — Kate Broeckelman, PrairieStar Health Center, Hutchinson, KS
  • Flat wire in the adjustable part of a temple. Don’t these designers have any engineering experience? You can’t bend against the flat of the wire. — Dan Amyx, Hillmoor Optical, Port St. Lucie, FL
  • Octagonal shapes. — Tina Gladen, Eye Care Associates, Minneapolis, MN
  • Ugly frames that are part of a designer introduction. — BJ Chambers, Carrera Optical, McQueeney, TX
  • Drill mounts. — Deborah McDonald, North Oak Family Eyecare & Optical, Valdosta, GA
  • I simply cannot wrap my head around the one square and one round lens trend. This is very offsetting and makes me feel really bad for people with mental issues. — Chris Clark, Advanced Eye Care Optical Shoppe, Panama City, FL
  • Havana Tortoise anything. Hate it. — Ben Thayil, OD, Lifetime Vision and Eye Care, Miami, FL
  • Clear. — Patti Richard, OD, Family Eye Care, North Andover, MA
  • If I see one more pair of Pit Vipers… — Kris Kittell, Torrey Highlands Optometry, San Diego, CA
  • Double bridge frames on women. — Rick Pascucci, Towpath Vision Care, Clinton, NY
  • I just can’t get on the clear aviator bandwagon… — Brandy Patrick, Depoe Eye Center Macon, Warner Robins, GA
  • Black frames on young ladies. — Gene Gillan, Rush Henrietta Opticians, Henrietta, NY
  • Early 2000s rectangles. Everything about that style was awful! Bad for PALs, bad for anything over -3.00, just gross. — Amie Robinson, Spring Hill Eyecare, Spring Hill, TN
  • Plastic aviators. — Diana Bishop, Eclectic Eyewear, Austin, TX
  • The “serial killer” double bar look. — Sonja Franklin, OD, Modern Eyes, Austin, TX
  • Gaudy Cazal frames. — Robert M. Easton Jr. OD, FAAO, Oakland Park, FL
  • Really tired of exaggerated P-3s. I have too many and they’re not very popular around here. — Aaron Baker, McKinney Eyeworks, McKinney, TX
