Your Success Stories and More Letters to the Editor for October
An optician that owned the practice I worked at right out of optometry school told me that I didn’t have what it takes to run a practice. Here I am 14 years later with a busy successful practice of my own and he is struggling to find ODs to work for him in his declining “optical-based” practice. — Kimberly Riggs, OD, Ligonier, PA
Love, love, love to see individuals succeed and in process surprise others. — Verbelee Nielsen-Swanson, Oxford Eyes, Orlando, FL
I’m a second-generation ABO certified optician. I worked at an optometry office in college and for my dad after. Through the years, we became partners and when he died unexpectedly in 1998, I purchased the remaining shares from my mother. I soon realized I didn’t have the business head my father had and things got rough. With help from my accountant, primary lab owner and a new bank, we turned things around. So I was able to “show” the old bank and some “doubtful” vendors that I could do it. — Robert Lootens, Physicians Optical Service, Jefferson City, MO
This is such a satisfying industry. I absolutely love the patient base and my coworkers. — Melissa Taylor, Tablerock Family Vision, Branson West, MO
I absolutely adore INVISION mag! I look forward to every issue and every email. I have chosen half of my dispensary’s lines based off of information and recommendations from the site. I have learned how to apply for insurance and so much more valuable information. I love what the mag brings to our field and we thank and appreciate you for it. — Courtney Avery, Clariti EyeCare, Memphis, TN
