3D-Printing Firm Signs Deals for 2nd US Optical Lab

The company helps make lenses with ‘unusual or extreme requirements.’

EINDHOVEN, THE NETHERLANDS – Luxexcel and Quest Vision Care Specialty Lab have reached an agreement for the installation of the Luxexcel VisionPlatform for ophthalmic specialty lenses. The platform will be operational in January at the Quest Vision Care Specialty Lab site in Largo, FL.

Quest Vision Care Specialty lab is known as a “lab’s lab” that provides specialty lab work for wholesale optical labs in the U.S., according to a press release. It also operates in 17 other countries.

The Luxexcel VisionPlatform consists of industrial grade optical 3D-printers, lens-design software and workflow integration tools. It enables an ophthalmic lab to manufacture unique ophthalmic lenses by means of additive manufacturing.

Guido Groet, chief commercial officer of Luxexcel, said the first operational VisionPlatform installation was unveiled on Nov. 13 in North Carolina.

“We are excited to make this next step with Quest Vision Care Specialty Lab,” Groet said. “With Quest we have found a partner that will maximize the benefits of our Luxexcel VisionPlatform by printing custom RX lenses for non-mainstream applications.”

Quest said the deal will make its 3D printing technology available to a broader range of labs and end-customers.

“The flexibility the Luxexcel VisionPlatform offers, empowers us to provide completely customized ophthalmic specialty lenses made to the measure,” said Michael Walach, president and founder of Quest Vision Care Specialty Lab. “The Luxexcel equipment can simply address patient needs for vocational, lifestyle or special prescription requirements which cannot be produced with existing production technologies like corrective lenses for meridional aniseikonia, channel prisms, prism segs, quatrofocals and many other special vocational and corrective Rx lenses with unusual or extreme requirements.”
