CooperVision Is First Major Contact Lens Manufacturer to Join Vision Council

“We believe it is essential for contact lenses to be represented.”

(Press Release) PLEASANTON, CA — CooperVision, Inc. announced that it is the first major contact lens manufacturer to join The Vision Council.

“The Vision Council’s goals and work within the industry align with CooperVision’s mission of helping improve the way people see each day,” said Jerry Warner, president, The Americas, CooperVision. “We believe it is essential for contact lenses to be represented in The Vision Council’s research, education, and advocacy efforts. Contact lenses are a popular form of vision correction with significant technological advances, and consumer and industry awareness must keep pace. As a contact lens company member, we look forward to contributing our perspective and working alongside The Vision Council moving forward.”

One such opportunity for collaboration is on the issue of digital eye fatigue. For the past five years, The Vision Council has issued annual reports on the use of digital devices and the implications on visual health. CooperVision has actively worked over the last 18 months to raise awareness of digital eye fatigue as well, through the launch of FightEyeFatigue.com, the facilitation of an educational radio media tour on World Sight Day, and appearances at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2016 and 2017 to discuss the topic with mainstream technology media. In June 2016, CooperVision launched Biofinity Energys lenses with Digital Zone Optics lens design and Aquaform Technology to help with eye tiredness and dryness, two key symptoms commonly associated with digital eye fatigue.

“The addition of CooperVision to The Vision Council’s diverse membership opens an exciting door for our organization to tap into another realm of the greater eye care community, further helping us fulfill our mission to champion better vision for better lives,” said Ashley Mills, CEO, The Vision Council. “We’ve proudly counted CooperVision as an exhibitor and sponsor of International Vision Expo, and look forward to working with them now as a part of our membership to educate consumers about the importance of vision health and the innovations in vision care products.”

“The Vision Council continues to make valuable contributions to the advancement of the industry with new research on topics of growing interest, including the impact of blue light,” Warner said. “We have long admired their dedication to increasing visibility of the new challenges in vision care. Now, we are excited to be a part of it.”
