Eyewear Designers Look Back for the Future

The ‘50s inspire two new lines, and a ‘60s stalwart is back.

Eyewear designers are finding inspiration from the 1950s. Not the Ozzie-and-Harriet 1950s, but the “Rebel without a Cause” 1950s. Allure Eyewear has debuted a collection of James Dean eyewear inspired by the iconic actor. Vintage-style guru Dita Von Teese is bringing out a line of retro-look sunglasses that reinterpret the classics of the ‘40s and ‘50s. And a stalwart of French eyewear, Vuarnet is making a comeback in the U.S. Launched in the 1960s, the company’s sunglasses were reintroduced in September after being out of production for 14 years.
