Warby Parker Assigns Work to Some Employees in an Unusual Way

Workers “love the idea.”

Quartz reports that eyewear company Warby Parker is using an innovative system to assign work to some of its computer programmers. A group of 31 managers can award upvotes or downvotes to the suggested projects. The programmers choose which projects to work on, but it’s to their benefit to choose projects with lots of votes.

Quartz explains that engineering teams “compete to accumulate the most points” and win a prize at the end of every quarter. The employees “love the idea that they have autonomy and they can select ideas that they find most interesting,” Warby Parker co-CEO Dave Gilboa says.
