Latinos En Optometry (LEO) launched in earnest earlier this year to support Latinos in eyecare and those who serve Latino communities.

The group hosted a meetup Friday, Sept. 29 at Vision Expo West 2023 as Day 2 on the showroom floor came to a close.

The event featured a DJ, Latino heritage-themed decorations, a goodie bag, champagne, and dozens of attendees.

LEO is a noprofit organization. It was founded in 2021 by Diana Canto-Sims, OD, CEO (pictured center) and founder of La Vida Eyewear and co-owner of Buena Vista Optical in Chicago, and Lawrence Chavez, founder and CEO of EveryDay Contacts, Inc.

LEO’s purpose is to be a conduit between the Latino community and the eyecare industry.

Latinos En Optometry also provides continuing education to all of optometry.

Champagne was a pleasant bonus for attendees who ventured to the back of the showroom floor to take in the event at the Innovation Stage.

The Innovation Stage area was decked out for the occasion.

Did you know that the Latino population has some of the highest rates of vision loss and blindness caused by eye diseases?

LEO currently is enlisting members and sponsors while planning future events.
