CooperVision’s New Graduate Summit Prepares Optometrists for Success

(PRESS RELEASE) SAN RAMON, CA —More than 80 optometrists actively participated in CooperVision’s third annual New Graduate Summit, held in Alexandria, Virginia. The new ODs, who were nominated to participate by their faculty, immersed themselves in three days dedicated to contact lenses, myopia management, and personal finance success. The event was intentionally scheduled prior to the annual American Optometric Association 2023 Optometry’s Meeting held in Washington, D.C., to support the profession at large.

“Hosting the New Graduate Summit offers many of us throughout CooperVision a unique opportunity to engage with some of the most talented individuals from their graduating classes and the ability to initiate a relationship with them that can last throughout their career,” said Michele Andrews, OD, Vice President of Professional and Government Affairs – Americas, CooperVision. “Our team equips the new ODs with the latest insights in contact lens technology, provides the newest tools in myopia management, and shares invaluable career guidance as they embark on their new professional journey.”

Attendees participated in educational sessions led by Dr. Justin Kwan, Dr. Christopher Lopez, Dr. Shalu Pal, Dr. Steve Rosinski, Dr. Louise Sclafani, Dr. Arti Shah, Dr. Cindy Shan, Dr. Felicia Timmermann, Dr. Tara Vaz, and Dr. Kelly Voltz. Topics ranged from the latest developments in the world of contact lenses, to strategies and tools needed for success in their new career.

“Through the New Graduate Summit, I learned that every patient can be a contact lens wearer until proven otherwise,” said Melanie Mae Patterson, OD, a new graduate from the Kentucky College of Optometry. “CooperVision makes taking care of our patients’ needs that much easier with its wide range of contact lenses, and I received tips and tricks to fit an irregular cornea on my first day!”

CooperVision’s unwavering commitment to new optometry school graduates extends well beyond the event itself. As a testament to this commitment, CooperVision will continue to provide in-person educational workshops and seminars, as well as digital on-demand support through ECP Viewpoints, its online site that provides insights, resources, and perspectives on various topics relevant to eye care professionals and the optometry industry.
