(Press Release) NEW YORK — SmartWork Media scored an impressive haul at the recent Trade Association Business Press International awards, winning six honors including the competition’s most prestigious prize — a gold medal for INVISION in the category of Best Single Issue.
INVISION’s May 2016 edition, dubbed “The Kids’ Issue,” focused almost exclusively on how eyecare professionals could better serve young customers. In addition to the strict content focus on issues related to children, the magazine included fun design flourishes meant to emphasize the issue’s youthful theme.
Judges raved about the execution of this special issue, saying “INVISION carried the childlike theme throughout the entire issue with bright, eye-popping graphics that fit the content.”
“The May 2016 issue already holds a special place in my heart as the first full issue I worked on when I came on board at INVISION. I could not be happier that it has also had such a strong showing at this year’s Tabbies,” said INVISION Editor-in-Chief Dee Carroll.
“At SmartWork Media we gauge our success by the positive impact we make on the lives of retail professionals,” said Matthijs Braakman, SmartWork Media CEO and Publisher. “Our thousands of reader and user testimonials are the true testament of our success. And winning so many awards affirm that our publications and digital media products are providing the highest quality of information and experience for our audience. I couldn’t be prouder of our teams’ successful collaboration and many accomplishments. “

SmartWork Media’s other Gold award winner was Best E-Newsletter for INVISION. The e-newsletter award was the first major award SmartWork Media has ever won for one of its online products.
“We’ve made pretty serious improvements to our online offerings over the last year,” said Group Editorial Director David Squires. “Bringing home top honors against such tough competition is strong proof of how far we’ve come. We’ve always been confident that we can stack up against any business media company in print. Now we’re confident we can stack up against anybody online as well.”
Other award winners included a 20th-place finish for INSTORE’s September issue in the Best Single Issue category, plus three writing honors:
- 6th place for Best Feature Story for INVISION’s Dee Carroll for “Rx Men“
- 11th place for Best Feature Story for INSTORE’s managing editor Eileen McClelland for “Social Skills“
- Bronze award for Best How-to Article for INSTORE’s Eileen McClelland for “Build a Better Salesperson“
