Maui Jim Launches Optical Lab in Germany

(PRESS RELEASE) Maui Jim, a company in the premium polarized sunglass market, has opened an optical lab in Braunschweig, Germany. This is Maui Jim’s first fully digitalized production site located outside the U.S.

The new lab is more than 24,000 square feet and will produce lenses for Maui Jim’s new Optical Collection and prescription sunglasses that feature the brand’s proprietary PolarizedPlus2 lens technology. Maui Jim established its presence in Braunschweig in 2004 when it launched a German distribution center. Today, the brand operates more than 32,000 square feet and has invested more than $10 million to bring this new lab to life.

The new lab will reduce wait time for European deliveries – shipments will no longer have to go through customs, which will significantly reduce delivery turnaround time. This is the first stepping stone for spreading Maui Jim’s “Aloha Spirit” to Europe.

Additionally, the lab opening creates positions for 85 new employees, who will be overseeing and controlling the fully automated manufacturing process, guaranteeing a high product quality that meets and exceeds Maui Jim market standards.
