Shamir to Announce Anti-Fog Lens Coating

This is essential for people who wear glasses and face masks during COVID-19 pandemic.

(PRESS RELEASE) SAN DIEGO, CA – During this challenging time, when wearing a face mask is recommended or mandatory, those who wear glasses are met with a unique situation of their lenses fogging up. Distorted vision through fogging can create hazardous conditions for medical staff who require clear vision at all times.

To assist mask-wearers who also wear glasses, particularly those in medical teams, Shamir Insight, Inc. is piloting a technology called Shamir Glacier  Anti-Fog, that permanently prevents the build-up of vapor on the lens without any type of activator or rejuvenation spray.

With the outbreak of COVID-19, Shamir has accelerated manufacturing to launch the product within the coming weeks, whereas Glacier  Anti-Fog was scheduled to launch in North America at the end of year 2020. Due to special equipment needed to produce Glacier Anti-Fog, the U.S. does not yet have the technologies or capabilities to mass produce this coating. The coating itself was initially developed for athletes in 2018, and it has proven to be successful in markets across the world. It has since been adapted for our current needs during this pandemic.

The priority of the pilot for Shamir’s Glacier  Anti-Fog technology will initially be to provide the resources necessary for first responders and healthcare professionals wearing PPE, masks, and face shields, in hospital institutions where COVID-19 is highly saturated. As more manufacturing becomes readily available, Glacier  Anti-Fog will be made accessible to consumers through their Eye Care Professionals. Shamir is in the process of developing a roll-out launch plan in stages. Please stay tuned in the coming months for more information, and updates regarding availability and release on this coating.

  • Frontside: Features Glacier Plus, a Premium Anti-Reflective Coating as Standard
    -Glacier Plus is a Premium Anti-Reflective coating designed to resist, repel, and reduce any dust, debris, and glare for optimal vision
  • Backside: Features Glacier  Anti-Fog, a Permanent Anti-Fog Solution
    -No spray activator, cloth activator, or rejuvenator ever required
    -Long-lasting, fog-free solution from the start to end of working shifts
    -Collects and spreads water vapor on lens in a pattern that preserves the vision clarity
    -Ideal for consumers wearing masks, in particular those fully dressed in PPE clothing
