Today in Heresy: Maybe Millennials Don’t Matter

As the NYT takes a look at “millennial mania,” a new report says it may be media hype.

It will cost you $499 to download the details, but the bottom line of a new report from Forrester Research is priceless: “Don’t Worry about the Millennials.” The report, featured in a New York Times piece about “the millennial mania that is overtaking all manner of businesses,” says that the fixation on the spending habits of 20-somethings is largely a result of media hype. And, it ignores the critical fact that consumers of that age are “overwhelmed with educational debt.” The Times quotes the report as follows: “While some businesses must target millennials because of the nature of their products, most do not need to.”
