Marvin Davenport
(PRESS RELEASE) RANCHO CORDOVA, CA — VSP Vision Chief Diversity Officer Marvin Davenport has been named one of the Top 100 Diversity Officers for 2023 by DiversityFIRST. The honor recognizes officers whose leadership prioritizes diverse talent at an organization. As VSP’s first diversity officer, Davenport is the only honoree selected from the eye care industry.
“Since joining VSP in 2020, Marvin has spearheaded far-reaching, innovative initiatives that support the growth of our organization and communities across the country,” said VSP Vision Chief Human Resources Officer Kristi Cappelletti-Matthews. “His genuine concern for the equitable treatment of others helps us foster a diverse and inclusive environment for everyone.”
VSP’s commitment to a culture of belonging spans nearly 70 years, including most recently with Davenport playing a central role. In 2022, VSP was named a Best Company for Multicultural Women by Seramount; in partnership with Black EyeCare Perspective, VSP co-hosted outreach events at three Historically Black Colleges and Universities designed to introduce Black students to optometry and careers at VSP; and Business Resource Groups, which encourage meaningful employee connection, hosted more than 40 educational and awareness events.
“Our culture, diverse perspectives and collaborative approach are just a few of the reasons why I was excited to join VSP,” said Davenport. “I’m honored to be recognized as a top 100 diversity officer, and I look forward to the continued evolution of our industry-leading organization.”
Prior to joining VSP, Davenport served as the head of inclusion & diversity programs for Amazon Web Services where he was responsible for key global business projects that focused on diversity integration into the employee lifecycle. He is also a Global Competence Certified Practitioner and a Cultural Orientations Approach Certified Practitioner.
