“Sourcing” Coming to Eyewear Retailing

Two brands highlight locally sourced wood, one works with pedal-power.

Sourcing, the word of the moment in the jewelry biz, is becoming a part of the everyday eyewear lexicon as well. Where a product comes from is now a selling point. Among various eyewear brands that emphasize their origins, Milwaukee resident Josh Rickun uses only locally sourced wood for his custom-order frames. Brett Nagafuchi and David Flowers of Yellow Springs, OH not only use local wood for their Featherwood Frames, they make each pair by hand on equipment that runs on pedal-power – i.e., a repurposed exercise bike.
