The New England Optometric Conference has opened registration for the June 6 & 7 conferences. The NEOC offers high-quality, affordable continuing education for optometrists, opticians, technicians and staff.

“I decided to hold the conference in two different cities, to allow more people to commute from home and save money on hotels,” said Natalie Taylor, CPOT, the NEOC’s founder.

“While the staff courses are the same on each day, optometrists are able to attend both days and earn 16 unique hours of CE.” Saturday, June 6’s conference is being held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nashua, New Hampshire.

As a special promotion in conjunction with the New Hampshire Optometric Association, any optometrist who attends the North Conway NHOA meeting may send 3 of his/her staff to the NEOC conference at a special savings rate.

Sunday’s conference, June 7, is taking place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick, Rhode Island. This event has many additional features, including a lunchtime Keynote Address from Olympic athlete Marla Runyan. Ms. Runyan has had Stargardt’s disease since early childhood, and will discuss her experiences with low vision as a long-distance runner.

There is a 90-minute wet lab for optometrists, presented by X-Cel Contacts, which will focus on fitting custom soft and GP lenses to the atypical cornea. There is also a two-hour workshop for opticians, presented by improv actors from the Trinity Repertory Theater Company of Providence, that is not to be missed!

Both conference days feature 8 hours of CE among four classrooms: two tracks for doctors to choose from, as well as a paraoptometric class and an optician class. The optometry courses are focused on systemic diseases and testing, and are all COPE-approved with the exception of Sunday’s contact lens wet lab.

The paraoptometric courses are beginner and intermediate level, AOA-approved, and would be fantastic for technicians, receptionists, insurance billers, and all new staff. TheABO-approved optician courses are intermediate and advanced, and feature two of the top speakers in the field: Dr. Irwin Shwom and Roy Ferguson, PhD.

The exhibitor areas in each city will feature a Headshot Photo Booth, along with a complimentary makeup booth. For $20 (paid directly to the photographer, cash or credit), you will be emailed 2-3high resolution images in the week post-event. These booths are outside the classroom area, so even if your whole staff doesn’t register for lectures they can stop in to sit for a photo.

A one-day pass for optometrists is $150, and $125 for opticians and staff. The pass includes a full buffet lunch. Registration and course details are available on the conference’s website: www.NEOC2015.com. There is also a mail-in registration form available, for those paying by check:
P.O. BOX 3454 PROVIDENCE, RI 02909.
