1-800 Contacts May Be Sold in $2B Deal, Reuters Reports

The owners of 1-800 Contacts Inc. are considering selling the business, Reuters reports.

AEA Investors, a private equity firm, has hired Goldman Sachs to help with the potential sale, according to the report.

1-800 Contacts may be valued at “more than $2 billion, including debt,” according to Reuters, which cited unnamed “people familiar with the matter.” The online contact lens retailer is based in Draper, UT.

Reuters reports that AEA representatives would not comment on a potential sale and 1-800 Contacts officials could not immediately be reached.

AEA bought a majority share of the firm in 2015 from Thomas H. Lee Partners.

1-800 Contacts announced plans in December to acquire 6over6 Vision Ltd. 6over6 offers a variety of vision test technologies, including retrieving optical parameters from existing lenses and measuring pupillary distance, enabling consumers to renew their prescriptions from anywhere.
