A “my way or the highway” approach won’t make things easier.

Anyone who’s ever had the responsibility of managing people understands the challenges an irritable employee can create. Writing for The Business Journals, leadership guru Sylvia LaFair offers nine sentences that managers should keep at the ready when dealing with unhappy employees in order to “get everyone facing the uphill trek and see it from a more positive vantage point.”

Of course, some bosses prefer to rule with an iron fist, though LaFair offers a word of caution to such a management style: “When a difficult project is forced into the work equation there is a natural tendency to slam the door on discussion and simply react with a ‘my way or the highway’ ultimatum. You do so only at your own peril.”
