North Carolina Board of Opticians Is Almost Broke

An audit has revealed that the North Carolina Board of Opticians lacks the funds to continue meeting its statutory duties to license opticians, collect fees, investigate complaints, and take necessary disciplinary actions. From 2009 through 2013, the board totaled operating losses of $277,702, leaving it with a cash balance of $35,929 as of June 30, 2014, says the audit. “Based on the average loss of $55,000 per year, the board will run through its cash soon.”
