OneSight Seeks Volunteer ODs for Charitable Clinics

(PRESS RELEASE) CINCINNATI, OH — Since 1988, OneSight has provided vision care access to more than 50 million people globally through charitable vision clinics and permanent vision centers. As OneSight continues to grow, so does its need for optical professionals to volunteer their skills to help reach the 1.1 billion people worldwide who lack access to eye exams and glasses.

In 2021, OneSight is committed to reaching tens of thousands of people in need of vision care in the U.S. through numerous charitable vision clinics that require optometrists and other optical professionals to volunteer their time and expertise. OneSight is seeking volunteer optometrists this year for clinics in the following locations:

  • Chicago, IL
  • New York City, NY
  • Tohono-Yaqui, AZ
  • Pittsburgh, PA
  • Kansas City, MO
  • Kern County, CA
  • Washington DC
  • Cincinnati, OH

“Our volunteer optometrists are a critical component of the work we do at OneSight. Without the expertise they generously provide, we wouldn’t be able to serve those who lack access to vision care throughout the U.S. and globally,” said Daniele Cangemi, Director of Programming of the Americas, OneSight. “Optical professionals who engage in our programs often come to simply volunteer their time, but ultimately, leave feeling moved and energized by the life-changing gift of clear sight they were able to offer others.”

Volunteer optometrists and opticians are needed to provide patient care from the pre-screening stage through the completion of each patient’s comprehensive eye exam. Volunteer role time commitments can be tailored to meet individual needs, with opportunities ranging from a few hours, to one day, or more.

“I’ve been volunteering with OneSight for the past 14 years as an optometrist and my experience has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” said Dr. Pam Brown, an optometrist who practices in Detroit, MI. “The ability to help bring clearer vision to those in need, some who have never had vision care, is not only heartwarming, but truly fulfilling. OneSight is a tremendous organization with a mission that is critical to people everywhere.”
