Safilo X Parsons Design Contest Winner Unveiled

Safilo Group and The New School’s Parsons School of Design named Olivia Le Blanc winner of the Safilo x Parsons Design Thesis Competition. She won the Safilo Award and $5,000. Six BFA students saw eyewear they designed for their theses brought to life.

ABB Cares Accepting Applications

 ABB Optical Group will begin accepting applications for its fourth annual ABB Cares program on Aug. 1. The program is open to ECPs who want to nominate an outstanding non-profit organization in their community. ABB Optical will award an ABB Cares Platinum grant of $5,000, two Gold grants of $2,500 each, and four Silver grants of $1,000. Organizations do not need to focus on eye health to qualify. To be considered, the organization must be a 501(c)(3), provide a valid tax ID number, and their local office must be within 30 miles of the nominating practice’s primary location. The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. EDT on Aug. 31, 2017.

Talk or They’ll Walk

According to Solutionreach’s Patient-Provider Relationship Study, patients want convenient and effective communication options. Currently, 20 percent of boomers, 44 percent of Gen Xer’s, and 42 percent of millennials are likely to switch practices unless they get it. Providers may lose patients, and associated revenue, if they can’t meet modern-day expectations, like text messaging and online communication.

Lens Therapy Study

CooperVision’s three-year Clinical Evaluation of a Dual-Focus Myopia Control 1-Day Soft Contact Lens Study shows a substantial slowing of myopia progression and eye elongation as measured by refractive error and axial length in children who followed the protocol. The study of 144 myopic children indicated that use of the dual-focus contact lens was effective
in slowing myopia progression.

Johnson & Johnson Launches Advocacy Academy

Johnson & Johnson Vision Care has introduced Advocacy Academy, an on-demand virtual learning tool to mobilize eye health advocates on key issues. Featuring self-paced modules, the portal provides guidance to ECPs who have an interest in working with lawmakers, agencies and associations to effectively advocate for eye health policies.
