(PRESS RELEASE) DigitalOptometrics LLC announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued to it U.S. Patent No. 9,980,644 B2, which relates to remote comprehensive eye examinations. The patent covers DigitalOptometrics’ telehealth optometry system, which involves the remote performance of a comprehensive eye health and vision analysis by a licensed Optometrist utilizing real time audio/visual communication between patient and Optometrist.
DigitalOptometric’s telehealth system replicates a thorough in-person comprehensive eye exam in less than 30 minutes. A remotely based licensed Optometrist reviews the same objective data from pre-testing equipment used in a comprehensive in-person exam. A digital phoropter, operated remotely by the Optometrist, results in accurate subjective visual findings for corrective contacts or eyeglasses for the patient. High definition video conference equipment permits the Optometrist and patient to discuss, in real time, the patients’ eye health and current visual analysis and for the Optometrist to answer patient questions. Within minutes after the conclusion of the exam, the Optometrist issues to the patient a prescription for corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses.
“Our method, apparatus and system offer customers long-term market exclusivity and a solution to the problem of securing a licensed Optometrist to perform on-site eye exams at a customer location. With our patented system, licensed Optometrists perform eye exams remotely at multiple locations, offering patients accessible needed eyecare and a comprehensive eye exam without the physical presence of an Optometrist during all customer business hours, enabling the growth and expansion of the customer business, said Howard S. Fried, O.D., President and Founder of DigitalOptometrics.
Using innovative video conferencing technology and remotely-operated ophthalmic equipment DigitalOptometrics makes comprehensive eye health exams readily available to all patients at their convenience. More information is available at www.digitaloptometrics.com.
