(PRESS RELEASE) RANCHO CORDOVA, CA — VSP Vision has announced 2023 graduate of Midwestern University and Arizona College of Optometry student, Evan Sveinson as the 2023 Premier Edge Student Business Challenge winner.
In collaboration with the Association of Practice Management Educators (APME) and Student Optometric Leadership Network (SOLN), the challenge was designed for optometry students interested in a path to private practice ownership. Sveinson was awarded a $10,000 scholarship, as well as a travel grant to the annual SOLN conference.
The two runners-up, Annie Stiles and Chad Said, were each awarded a $5,000 scholarship and travel grants to the SOLN conference.
To participate in the challenge, students were asked to submit a business plan that describes their professional and personal path to private practice ownership. APME judges selected the top three candidates, who are then asked to present at the SOLN conference where Sveinson was announced the winner.
“A lot of time, thought, effort, and passion went into creating this business plan,” said Sveinson. “Winning the grand prize offered me validation that I can really do this. I am grateful to VSP Vision for providing the opportunity to help me and many other students strive for our private practice aspirations.”
“We congratulate Evan on his well-earned win,” said VSP Vision Chief Growth Officer Michelle Skinner. “The passion and creative ideas submitted from him, and all participants reinforced that the future of private practice is bright, and we are proud to support the profession of optometry’s next generation.”
