World Sight Day is observed around the globe every year on the second Thursday of October.
It was founded in 2000 by the Lions Club International Foundation. It now is coordinated by The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) with support by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Since 2015, IAPB has sponsored a World Sight Day Photo Competition.
The competition is open to both amateur and professional photographers. Finalists and a winner are selected in each category.
According to the IAPB, the competition is meant to “showcase how eye heath, when accessible to all, has a tremendous impact on individuals, communities and economies.”
