Brothers Open US Eyewear Factory, Hope to Compete with Warby Parker

Brothers Tony and Jack III Erker, the fifth-generation owners of St. Louis-based Erker’s Fine Eyewear, are starting another eywear business called Copper Hinge.

The new company will have a retail component as well as a factory, producing frames and lenses in the Delmar Loop area of St. Louis, the Post-Dispatch reports.

With an online sales model in addition to the physical store, Copper Hinge hopes to compete with the likes of Warby Parker, according to the newspaper. The company is slated to open this month.

The brothers invested $1 mllion in the new business, which will incorporate a significant amount of automation. They anticipate having 14 employees.
