Embracing Change Through Uncertainty

All you need is just a dash of encouraging expectation and a pinch of sobering distrust.

I STRUGGLED WITH HOW to set the tone for this issue. Should I take a “New Year, New You!” approach full of hopeful optimism to start the year, or more of a “What fresh hell?” approach as the news cycle continues to feed us one cynicism after another? Truth is, for a whole slew of reasons, it’s getting harder and harder to plan long term because it feels like at a moment’s notice either the bottom could fall out or … you know, we’ll all be just fine.

So, given those constraints, I was left looking for something in the middle. Somewhere that strikes the right note of positivity but acknowledges a lot just can’t be known … a sense of embracing change through uncertainty.

And wouldn’t you know it… “Smart Frugality” rose to the top. It is never a bad idea to audit the books, trim the fat, and renegotiate those terms, but if you’ve been putting it off, may we urge you to cut that out. To get started, turn to page 26 for ideas on how to spend less, save more, get lower prices, and get maximum value.

And in that spirit of trimming the fat, this issue’s Best of the Best (page 35) profile highlights the way one practice potentially made back substantial sums by passing the cost of this “convenience” on to the customer. While our Eye-Sunglasses page highlights the trend of stripped down “Spare and Spartan” frames (page 20).

Page 20 also features the debut of our new product and trend editor, Heather Harrington.

Heather is a Denver-based freelance optician, territory manager for Studio Optyx and Woody’s eyewear, and president of the Opticians Association of Colorado, not to mention a 10-year veteran of the INVISION Brain Squad. We can’t wait to see what she does with the pages!

INVISION will be introducing additional new things throughout the year because we too will be embracing change through uncertainty.

Best wishes for your business,
