(PRESS RELEASE) If there’s one product that has been a bellwether during the pandemic, it’s eyewear. As people sheltered in place, eyewear associated with hunkering down (like reading glasses) saw a massive spike in demand. Now, as the pandemic wanes, eyewear associated with getting out (i.e. sunglasses) is experiencing record-setting demand.
This, according to a new data analysis from Pattern, a global ecommerce accelerator.
Ahead of National Eyewear Day (June 6) the data science team at Pattern tracked consumer demand (or the number of people shopping for a given item during a given period) on Amazon for eyewear to determine trends in consumer behavior. Take a look at the data by year:
2020 – Eyewear associated with hunkering down (and fixing up the house) saw historic demand

2021 – As restrictions relaxed and the population headed back to normal life, demand for sunglasses and other outdoor eyewear set their own records

2022 – The pandemic’s end continues to drive record-setting demand for outdoor eyewear. Demand for these eyewear products exceeds a banner year in 2021:
