Manager's To-Do

Full Steam Ahead To Holiday Prep and More Manager’s to Dos for November

Oct. 30-Nov. 5

MARKETING There’s still time to hold a customer appreciation event for your VIPs to show them how much you value them. Focus on fun and sowing seeds, not selling.

MARKETING LinkedIn has many of the micro-targeting capabilities of the other major social media sites but is less utilized and thus less crowded. Build a quick profile and ask your staff and customers to connect. Then give thought to some targeted demographics, say “professional women over the age of 35.”

Nov. 6-12

MARKETING Pick up a light cube. They can do wonders when it comes to email or text requests for photographs of frames. It’s all the more important these days given the customer may share the image with their friends.

MERCHANDISING Have you made space for “impulse purchases” at your cash register? Move some low-priced, appealing “splurchandise” next to your checkout area and rack up additional income at a time when people are looking for stocking stuffers.

Nov. 13-19

SOCIAL MEDIA Haven’t got the time or manpower to manage a full social media campaign? Try offering a simple “deal of the day” (or week) to get people excited about special, time-limited offers. Update your Facebook page twice a day with information about the deals.

MARKETING Your Flex Dollars are expiring! YOUR FLEX DOLLARS ARE EXPIRING! Yes, this is how simple (and how loud) your messaging to your customers should be over the next two weeks. Add a daily countdown graphic to the front page of your website as well. (8 days … 7 days … 6 days …)

Nov. 20-26 (Black Friday is Nov. 25)

MARKETING Keep posting your end-of-year event schedule on your social media outlets — email and mailed invites can go astray.

MARKETING Winter is a popular time for eyelid lifts as people tend to be less active and can hunker down for a few days while they recover. Investigate a tie-in with a local plastic surgeon.

Nov. 27-Dec. 3

MANAGEMENT It’s easy to fall into a negative mindset as the pressure of the holidays builds — constantly looking for faults and flaws among staff. For a week, keep a daily list of all the positive things they do.

LEADERSHIP Put on your Santa cap and straighten your Christmas tie. The holidays are finally here! The staff will take their energy levels from you. Be ready.
