“Optometrist” is the most-searched STEM job worldwide on Google, a new analysis reveals.
RS Components, an electronic component company, conducted the research and released a map of the “Most Popular STEM Job in Every Country,” referring to roles in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math.
“Microbiologist” topped the list in the U.S. But optometrist led in several countries, including Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand and South Africa.
“Optometrist” and “optometrist job” combined tallied more than 619,000 monthly searches worldwide, notes British trade publication Optometry Today.
According to RS Components: “Getting people more interested in a STEM career is essential for keeping countries moving forward and ensuring that people have opportunities to use their skills and thrive. As one of the fastest-growing and highest-paying sectors, those looking for a STEM career should feel confident and safe in their career choices over the years to come!”
To compile the data, the company used Google’s Keyword Planner to determine the average monthly search volume in each country for nearly 100 STEM jobs. The company used two search terms (e.g.”data analyst” and “data analyst job”). The research was conducted in November 2019.
