Business Insider recently talked with Warby Parker co-CEO Dave Gilboa about the topic of great employees.

After all, to grow a company to a valuation of more than $1 billion in just a few years, as the co-founders of the eyewear company did, you need a lot more than just a good idea. You need a strong sense for how to find and hire the right people.

One key is passion, Gilboa tells Business Insider. Warby Parker looks for people who are truly enthusiastic about the brand and who want to help it grow.

Additionally, he likes to hire people with a proactive approach, especially given the fast pace of a startup company.

“We need people that have identified problems and solve them,” he says.

And finally, the company needs people who have a natural curiosity and don’t get too attached to a certain way of doing things. Successful employees are adaptable and don’t mind diving in to learn a new way of performing a task, he says.
