Will 2022 Be Remembered as the Best Year Ever to Be an ECP?

The Big Survey 2022 is winding down.

The survey will remain open through the weekend. So there’s still time to add your voice to the discussion. In fact, if you are a vision business owner or manager, we encourage you to do so now! Just following this link.

But as we wait patiently for the final big push of questionnaires to flow in, we’ve come to realize that patience may not be our strength. We just had to start parsing through some of the returns. We simply couldn’t help ourselves. Unpacking these responses is like Christmas morn – each question a new present.

There’s a wealth of information we can’t wait to share with you. For starters, we plucked out some responses we’ve received so far for Question No. 19: Do you agree with this statement: “2022 is the best year ever to be working as an ECP?”

Respondents were only given two choices: yes or no. That was intentional. We wanted a definitive answer to the question. And, without much surprise, they nays are leading the way by a 3-out-of-4 clip.

However, we included a comments section to this query. This is where nuance and gray area come into play. Those that commented were much more evenly split. And of those who answered no, many suggested 2022 isn’t the worst even if it might not be the best.

Here are a few choice responses:

Yes

“Life is what you make it. This year has been great for the business. People are happy to be out and about. And we are happy to see them mask free.”

“Every year is the best year if we are still doing what we do best.”

“We have been amazed with the support of our patients. We have continuously grown our practice solely based on word of mouth. It’s truly been a great year!”

No

“It’s been a tough couple of years. I feel like ECPs don’t get the credit for what we do.”

“Insurance is making us crazier by the day. So, no.”

“Sales have been down. Materials and frames have backorder issues.”

No… but

“There is still too much online shopping. But it has been a good year. Not the best year.”

“But I don’t think it’s the worst, either.”

“2022 is an okay year. Best year ever was probably in the ’80s when Medicaid rates were the exact same as what they are now.”

The Home Stretch

We’ve had great response rates to The Big Survey from every region of the country. The Midwest and the Northeast are battling for top dog status. But we are pleased by the number of returns from across the country and Canada.

The state by state returns are interesting, though.

  • Leaders of the pack: California, Pennsylvania, New York, Florida and Texas top the list for number of responses.
  • A special shoutout: ECPs in Washington and Missouri are to be commended for their strong response rates.
  • Michigan vs. Ohio: Michigan has a slight edge between these two Great Lakes rivals. Can the Buckeyes stomach another loss to that state up north?
  • Call this a rivalry?: Speaking of border state rivalries, what is going on in Oklahoma and Oregon? ECPs in Texas and Washington, respectively, are completely showing up their brethren.

Don’t Forget About the Monthly Survey

We’ve placed a lot of focus and attention on the Big Survey the past few weeks. However, the latest monthly Brain Squad survey us up and running.

We’d hate for this little brother to be left out!

As most Brain Squad members already know, the monthly survey is a much lighter lift. It takes about 5 minutes to complete. Here’s the link.

Thanks to everyone who takes part in any (or all) of our surveys.

What’s the Brain Squad?
