(PRESS RELEASE) EyeCheq, a Miami-based health-tech company dedicated to point of care solutions and population-health announces Jai G. Parekh, MD, MBA, FAAO, as Executive Vice-President and Chief Innovation Officer. EyeCheq has developed the first fully autonomous eye screening platform employing artificial intelligence (AI). Dr. Parekh, a dual-trained internist and board-certified ophthalmologist for over two decades, has extensive industry experience and leadership roles in healthcare, eye care, healthcare IT, commercialization strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as private equity.
Dr. Parekh, a renowned eye surgeon and industry leader, recently served as Chief Medical Officer, Global Eye Care, for over 5 years at Allergan (2015-2020), one of the world’s largest ophthalmic companies. He served in that capacity until Allergan was acquired by AbbVie. Prior to this role, he served as Chief Medical Officer at 1-800-DOCTORS as well Chief Operating Officer of EyeTrans Technologies. “I am thrilled to partner with the seasoned Executive Team at EyeCheq to bring its disruptive technology to the forefront and help transform the way we screen and treat patients. Identifying patients earlier in the process of blinding diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration or glaucoma can help prevent ocular morbidity. I see these patients every week and there remains a huge unmet need in detecting disease, particular in patients who are asymptomatic. The team is working on anterior segment eye care as well, including refractive errors, such as myopia and astigmatism.”

Dr. Parekh trained in Boston and New York City at leading institutions for medical school, internal medicine, and ophthalmology. He completed an MBA at the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University and further trained in AI/Digital Strategy at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). He also serves on the boards of The Glaucoma Foundation and Lighthouse Guild, small biotech companies, and hospital systems.
