Dr. Anthony Fauci said wearing goggles is a good move for those who want maximum protection against the coronavirus.

Eye protection isn’t yet a universal recommendation, but it’s possible that it could become one, he told ABC News.

“Theoretically, you should protect all the mucosal surfaces,” said Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. “So if you have goggles or an eye shield you should use it.”

So far there have been 4.3 million cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. and 150,000 deaths, ABC News notes. At the moment, Fauci said, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee are starting to show worrisome increases in the numbers of people testing positive.
