It includes a mix of classic and newer toys.
Dr. Kellye Knueppel, an optometrist in Wisconsin, has released her annual list of vision-friendly children’s toys.
The blog entry on her practice website is called “2016 Gift List: 105 Optometrist-Approved Children’s Toys.” This year’s version includes eight new additions.
The blog post explains: “We started our vision-friendly gift list because we became increasingly concerned about the number of gifts that could potentially adversely affect a child’s visual development, such as computers and hand-held devices. We want to provide our parents with an alternative.”
The list includes items in categories such as building toys, fine motor skill toys and space perception toys.

Some example entries the Magformers magnetic construction set, a set of cornhole bean bags and the Kanoodle solitaire puzzle game.
The American Optometric Association quotes Knueppel saying: “Many optometrists share my list with their patients. I think it’s popular because the things on the list are fun. I try for a mix of classic, traditional toys along with some newer, fun toys and games.”
