The Vision Council Evolves to Drive Industry Growth and Member Success

(PRESS RELEASE) The Vision Council is expanding our membership structure to reflect the evolving optical industry and ensure the continued success of our 500+ member organizations. The new structure welcomes healthcare, technology and contact lens companies with dedicated divisions and includes division name changes and consolidation to better reflect our members and the industry at large. This update allows us to better serve our members as today’s marketplace continues to advance.

The new structure will ensure that they have a home for any company, brand, or corporation that manufactures, distributes, or sells optical products and services to make up the vision community.    

Eyewear & Accessories 
Companies that design, manufacture and distribute ophthalmic frames and accessories 

Retail 
Companies that provide vision care services and sell optical products in-store and/or online, including prescription and non-prescription products

Lens, Lab & Lens Processing Technology 
Lens manufacturers and designers, optical laboratories, ophthalmic instrument manufacturers, optical equipment manufacturers and lens testing laboratories  

Contact Lens 
Companies that design, manufacture, and distribute contact lenses and contact lens care products 

Over the Counter (formerly Sunglass & Reader)
Companies that design and manufacture non-prescription sunglasses, readers and other optical related products 

Healthcare  
Pharmaceuticals, telehealth, wellness and accessibility device manufacturers, low vision device manufacturers, disease management companies, managed vision care and vision insurance plan providers

Wearables and smart eyewear devices, virtual reality/augmented reality (VR/AR) device manufacturers and software developers, practice management software (PMS) and lab management software (LMS) companies, optical business management companies, robotic fulfillment, hearing aid manufacturers, 3D printing and artificial intelligence developers 

The Sunglass & Reader Division has been rebranded to better reflect the companies it represents and drive growth and innovation. A discussion about the transition will be presented at the Sunglass & Reader Division Meeting on Thursday, March 14, from 11:30–12:30 p.m. ET at The Westin New York at Times Square.

Be Part of the Vision

New members of The Vision Council will select the industry division that most reflects their company function, where they will be able to network with members of the industry in similar fields, attend meetings and help set priorities for The Vision Council’s future initiatives and programming. Members can participate in meetings and access resources from any division relevant to the scope of their operations and can further engage by joining a committee or task force, eventually progressing to volunteer leadership positions including The Vision Council’s Board of Directors.
