Vision Expo West is here!
As always, this year’s event is being held at the palatial Venetian Convention Center & Expo in Las Vegas. And, of course, INVISION is here, so be sure to stop by the booth – P18069 – and say hello to Editor-in-Chief Deirdre Carroll and the rest of the crew.
There are a handful of new features at this year’s trade show to supplement the usual booth displays, demonstrations, educational opportunities, and the general catching up with friends and reps from across the country.
The Vision Council and RX are co-organizing this year’s Vision Expo West. Here’s a snapshot of what they’ve come up with.
EYEnovate
EYEnovate is a new series focused on technological innovation in the optical industry. It will make its debut on the main stage of the showroom floor: The Innovation Stage.
The series will feature an assortment of short 15-minute talks by leaders in an array of fields about breakthroughs and cutting-edge technologies. Subjects include: artificial intelligence, VR/AR, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and automation.

“Year over year, the Innovation Stage at Vision Expo West boasts an energizing and thought-provoking schedule of programming that engages attendees from all facets of the industry,” says Fran Pennella, Vice President, Vision Expo, RX, co-owner of Vision Expo, in a press release. “EYEnovate will continue to build upon this, offering Show attendees a unique opportunity to peek behind the curtain and learn about our industry’s most anticipated technologies and innovations.”
The EYEnovate series will be split into two sessions – one Thursday and one Friday. Both commence at 9:45 a.m. An esteemed panel of optical industry leaders will judge all presentations. They then will name one presenter the Ocular Horizons Award winner.

OptiCon Hub
The OptiCon program always features interesting events and discussions. There will be an assortment of new sessions this year to look forward to. Topics include: “Refract This!,” “You’ve Got To Be Fitting Me!,” and “Optician to the Stars.”
Also of note, Rebecca Alexander will share her inspirational story of overcoming challenges during a special talk Thursday at 12:30-1:30 p.m. Alexander has Usher syndrome type 3 and is losing her vision and hearing.

Off Venue Events
Who doesn’t love good music? Bad Habits, otherwise known as The Eye Docs of Rock, will host the Opening Night Party September 28 from 9-12 p.m. at Brooklyn Bowl at the LINQ Promenade.
Who doesn’t love to dance? ODs on Facebook will host the Ultimate Party on September 29 from 7-9:30 at Drai’s Beach Club & Nightclub atop The Cromwell Las Vegas Hotel and Casino.
Who doesn’t love to golf? Fly in a day early and pack your clubs as Prevent Blindness hosts Swing FORE Sight on September 27 at Bali Hai Golf Club. The features a 7 a.m. shotgun start and includes breakfast, lunch, and hospitality cart access.
