What would you do if your significant other commented – in a widely perceived negative way – about your appearance?
What if that comment was made for the world to see?
What if you were only months removed from having your first baby with said significant other?
If you are Keke Palmer, you power right on through. The “Nope” actress and newest brand ambassador for Zenni Optical posted an Instagram video recently singing a rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely” to her nearly 5-month-old baby. In her post, the actress/singer/entrepreneur wrote, “One thing is certain, and one thing is true, IM A MOTHA, through and through!”
She then finished the post by reaching out to other mothers.

“To all my mom’s out there, how did your baby change you?? Mine empowered me! On such another level, my perspective changed because when my baby is good I’m GREAT! Look at that face! Gratitude galore.”
The post was in response to comments her boyfriend Darius Jackson made last week. While attending an Usher concert in Las Vegas, Palmer was videoed wearing a sheer dress over a black bodysuit. Usher serenaded Palmer with his song “There Goes My Baby.” (As an aside, Usher’s Vegas run seems to be hotbed for viral moments.)

The video (see below) was posted online and Jackson felt compelled to comment on Twitter: “It’s the outfit tho.. you a mom.”
Condemnation of his comments was swift. (Find more here and wherever you find your internet.) He eventually shut down his social media accounts. (But not before doubling down.) Palmer, though, has yet to publicly comment, aside from her Instagram post.
Perfect Pairing
It seems Zenni couldn’t have picked a better ambassador for its eyewear.
Palmer will be featured in the online eyewear retailer’s new ‘Find Your Frame of Mind’ ads. The initial phase of the campaign is entitled: “Summer Love.” Frames in this collection were selected to “capture the vibrant essence of summer style.”
“Keke Palmer is such a monumental talent and embodies what it means to be a positive and confident force in the world,” says Zenni Co-founder and CEO Julia Zhen in a press release. “As a trendsetter, especially when it comes to her glasses collection, we’re thrilled Keke is our new ambassador and can’t wait to see how she inspires Zenni customers to express their moods and individual style wearing Zennis all year round.”
The campaign will continue through the year with additional seasonal phases. Palmer will be featured in out of home advertising (OOH), print, and digital.

For her part, Palmer expressed pleasure in partnering with the 20-year-old San Francisco Bay-based eyewear company.
“Anyone who knows me knows that glasses are a huge part of my day-to-day style – they’re the perfect accessory. I love my Zenni glasses and how they allow me to express myself through the different moods that make me who I am,” says Keke Palmer in a press release. “Zenni’s mission to provide eyewear for everyone is so important. I hope all of these new collections help people feel confident, cool, creative and ready to express their own personal style – no matter what it is!”
