Institute a ‘Stupid’ Ritual and More To-Dos for March

Mar. 1-7

MARKETING Some parts of the country are more ready for spring than others. If you’re in the Midwest or anywhere south of the snow line, send a promotional e-mail highlighting spring fashion frames.

OPERATIONS Create an employee suggestion box but add a twist — staff have just 30 days to suggest ideas to make your business and their working lives better.

Mar. 8-14

CULTURE Institute one stupid ritual. Friday smoothies, birthday karaoke — something that makes your workplace culture memorable.

HONORS The entry period for the America’s Finest Contest closes on Mar. 15. Don’t miss your confetti moment. Get your submission in now!

TECHNOLOGY Brands have probably never been more powerful and even if you don’t carry them, or even begrudge that power, you need to ensure your SEO terms cater to anyone in your market needing “adjustments,” “repairs,” “emergency services” and even upgrades for their “Ray-Bans,” “Oakleys,” or “Maui Jims.” There’s a good chance they’ll need the attention of an ECP sometime soon too.

STAFF Run a 10-minute “cool head” drill. One person plays the angry customer, the other practices calm posture and slow voice. Better to sweat in practice than freeze in battle.

Mar. 22-31

SELF-IMPROVEMENT Start a luck diary. Ask staff to jot down one “lucky” break they noticed today — a customer compliment, a chance referral. Read a few out loud each week to remind everyone fortune visits more often than they think.

MANAGEMENT Schedule quarterly check-ins with everyone on staff. This is a requirement to create a strong team culture. Meet with team members individually. Review their performance, what achievements you would like them to reach, listen to their needs, and hear the ways they’d like to improve themselves or their ideas to improve the office.
